Sts. J&A Students Raise $2,500 for The Care Service

Sts. Joachim and Ann Catholic School raised more than $2,500 for The Care Service last month with its annual Egg Roll competition. Led by the school’s 8th Grade Student Council, students purchased plastic eggs which were rolled in a series of races for a good cause.

“Having The Care Service right next door, offers our school a unique opportunity to put our faith into action by having the students participate in service projects to help those in our community that are in most need,” said Eileen Emery, Learning Consultant with Sts. Joachim and Ann School. “It helps our students realize that there are people right in their own backyard that need help.”

The school has been a long-time supporter of The Care Service, donating its annual Read-A-Thon proceeds, and growing vegetables in the classroom for pantry clients, to name a few, said Pam Struckhoff, executive director at The Care Service.

“The Care Service appreciates the ongoing support from both students and staff at Sts. Joachim and Ann School. It’s rewarding to see the younger generation help the most vulnerable in our community,” said Struckhoff.

The Care Service works with low-income families and individuals in St. Charles, Lincoln, and Warren counties to provide financial housing and utility assistance, and intensive case management designed to address the individual needs of families in crisis. The agency also operates two Client Choice Food Pantries, a Mobile Food Pantry, and our Street Outreach team hits the streets three times a week to locate and assist the literally homeless in our area. Families can also be enrolled in our Annual Adopt-A-Family program at Christmas.

Emery said these service opportunities will hopefully begin to plant the seed to live a life that includes service to others.

“Students also learn that even kids can help make a difference in someone else’s life, no matter how small or big their donation,” said Emery.

Sts. Joachim and Ann Care Service is a nationally accredited non-profit, 501c3, faith-based social service organization and is the largest comprehensive social support agency in the region serving St. Charles, Lincoln, and Warren Counties.
